Ideated and conceptualized by noted elocutionist and India’s only audio actor to be a part of BBC Radio 3 PlaySujoy Prosad ChatterjeeKolkata’s first ever Solo Theatre Fiesta, “MONOLOGUES” started its journey in 2012 with the likes of Chapal BhaduriPranati TagoreBijoylaxmi Burman and Saoli Mitra. The effort created a great stir among the cultural citizens of the city.PHREEDOM4EVER has always been exploring new horizons to support, uplift and recognize liberal and novel formats of our culture and offer freedom to expressions through subtle art beyond its corporate accountabilities.

Distinguishing the latent competence of MONOLOGUES at its early days and identifying the responsibility to shoulder our intellectual wealth, PHREEDOM4EVER embraced MONOLOGUES as its Brand Property to promote its objective, raise its perceptibility and make it a festival with a difference.

The second edition, MONOLOGUES 2013 broke newer blocks when the inaugural show was graced by the performance of the graceful theatre personality Mahabanoo Mody Kotwal at ITC Fortune Select Loudon which was immensely greeted by the intellectual czars of the city. This was followed by performance by youth performers of the city at Tantra, the discotheque of The Park. While Baishali Chatterjee Dutt and Avishek De Biswas evoked brilliance with their theatrical performances, Neepabithi Ghosh immersed everyone in her renditions of Western and Bolly retro numbers. This was another jewel in the crown as for the first time a theatrical performance was staged at a night club’s discotheque. The festival rounded off with stunning performances by Riddhi BandyopadhyayNivedita Bhattacharya and Bijoylaxmi Burman.

This year, MONOLOGUES 2014 opened its floodgate with a Solo performance by cerebral and nationally acclaimed artist Meeta Vashishth at Swissotel. The evening was inaugurated by Minister Shri Bratya Basu and was attended by distinguished personalities of the city that included Subhaprasanna, Joy Sarkar, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Rituparna Sengupta, Kaushik Sen, Usha Ganguly, Dolly Basu, Sharbari Dutta, Bharati Roy to name a few. The youth segment at Tantra, The Park featured performances of juvenile performers. Soumya Mukherji presented an intense theatrical performance followed by an intrigue musical by young and talented Kabir Chattopadhyay. The matinee show was crowned off with an opulent performance by the prodigal singer - composer Neil Adhikary. The curtain drawing segment witnessed some rib tickling stand – up comedy by internationally acclaimed comedian Anubhav Pal. A choreographed dance performance by highly admired danseuse, choreographer and arts entrepreneur Paromita Saha left everyone asking for more. Veteran stage personality Usha Ganguly premiered her latest productionRozana” at the prestigious Tollygunge Club to mark a gratifying end to MONOLOGUES 2014..

Everything is not measured in terms of currencies. We feel that we all shoulder a social and cultural responsibility to give a good opportunity to various forms of art, offer quality productions to art lovers and cross – pollinate them to create a liberating expression that’s subtle and rich in content.
